PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN TORONTO CONDUCTS VIRTUAL TOWN HALL MEETING ON THE PHILIPPINE NATIONAL ELECTIONS

11 April 2022, Toronto – The Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Toronto conducted a virtual town hall meeting with the with the “Koalisyon Kontra Daya” (KKD). The coalition is composed of different groups such as Migrante, Bayan, Bayan Muna, Malaya, Answering the Cry of the Poor (ANCOP) and Kanayan for Leni.

The Consulate General presented an overview of the election process, including the registration period and with emphasis on the procedures on postal voting. During the open forum, the group aired their concerns on possible election fraud, delays in delivery of the ballots and the need to provide constant information to the public on the elections.

Consul General Orontes V. Castro assured the group that the Consulate General is doing everything it can so that the ballots will reach the voters on time and ensure that the policies are implemented in favor of the voter. He also assured the group that their concerns and recommendation will be conveyed to the COMELEC.

The group expressed their appreciation for the conduct of the virtual town hall meeting and conveyed that they will pro-actively support the Consulate General in ensuring a transparent and credible election.

The virtual town hall meeting was attended by around 21 officers of said groups based from all over Canada. END
