PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN TORONTO AND TRADE SECTION-TORONTO PCG TURN OVER FLOUR SAMPLES TO LOCAL SMEs

23 August 2022, Toronto – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto and the Trade Section-Toronto PCG turned over green banana and mango flour samples to four (4) Filipino small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The flour samples were from two Philippine exporters, Sekaya and Magicmelt Foods Inc. (GEM). The SMEs which received the samples were iSLAS Filipino BBQ and Bar, Isabella’s Mochi Donuts, The Night Baker and Made by Mree. They specialize in making Filipino-inspired sweets, pastries and baked goods. They intend to use the flour samples in making new products that will help promote Philippine cuisine and products.

Consul General Orontes V. Castro and Trade Assistant Jenny G. Racca turned over the flour samples to the four Filipino SMEs at iSLAS Filipino BBQ and Bar, which hosted the turnover event on 23 August 2022.

In his remarks, Consul General Orontes V. Castro thanked the local SMEs for their continuing effort to promote Filipino culture and heritage, through food diplomacy. He conveyed the Consulate General’s full support to these efforts. In real time virtual message, Trade Commissioner and PTIC-New York Head Benedict M. Uy thanked the four Filipino SMEs for their willingness to accept the flour samples and expressed the hope that they will be successful in integrating the flour samples in their finished food products.

The turnover of the flour sample is the result of the Online Business Matching for the food sector organized by the Trade Section-Toronto PCG last 08 August 2022 which was participated by local SMEs and Philippine exporters in the food sector.

More flour samples are expected to be received by the Consulate General from the exporters for distribution to local SMEs. Should local SMEs find the flour samples promising for their respective businesses, export of the flour products may be facilitated through the consortium of the Filipino SMEs. END-
