2022-12-29

Toronto, 29 December – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto and its attached Philippine Government agencies, led by Consul General Orontes V. Castro, marked on Monday, 05 December 2022, during its morning flag raising ceremony, the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (from 25 November to 12 December) and the Canadian 06 December National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women with a prayer recited in unity with the Filipino and Canadian public of the Consulate. The prayer for the elimination of Violence against Women was led by Ms. Maria Andrea Cardona Morales, one of the Filipina applicants that day.

VAW 2022
Consul General Orontes V. Castro and Ms. Maria Andrea Morales lead the rest of the PCG personnel and Filipino and Canadian clients of the Consulate in a prayer on the elimination of Violence Against Women (VAW).

December 06 is also informally known in Canada as White Ribbon Day (Jour du Ruban Blanc). The date was established by the Parliament of Canada in 1991 to remember the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, in which fourteen women were slain and fourteen others injured in the name of “fighting feminism” more than 30 years ago.
