One of the Pioneers of Filipino Restaurant Scene in Toronto Rejoins the 2023 Filipino Restaurant Month

Toronto, 12 April 2023– Rejoining this year’s Filipino Restaurant Month in Canada (FRMC) is one of the pioneers of the Filipino restaurant scene in Toronto, “Kanto by Tita Flips”. Owner/Chef Diona Joyce, also known as Tita Flips, proudly shared with the representatives of the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto and members of the Filipino-Canadian media Kanto’s new offerings which showcase native dishes from Mindanao and is only offered for the duration of FRMC. These include Palapa, a staple condiment of the Maranao tribe, which has a distinct spicy flavor and can be paired with any dish; and Chicken Piyanggang, a native dish of the Tausug tribe.

Kanto also took the opportunity to introduce their tasty fried chicken, “Chicken Joyce”, which is a play on the name of a chicken meal of a famous Filipino food chain and Chef Diona’s last name.

Chef Joyce started their business by selling food in one of the corners of the street in Toronto, hence the name, “Kanto”, which is street in Filipino. END
