14 July 2023, Toronto – The Philippine Bureau of Treasury and the Land Bank of the Philippines conducted a Financial Literacy Session on national government retail instruments for the Filipino-Canadian community at the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto on 14 July 2023. More than 80 participants listened to the Philippine macroeconomics presentation of Department of Finance Undersecretary Zeno Ronald R. Abenoja and the announcement of Treasurer Rosalia V. De Leon on the upcoming third quarter 2023 launch of the Philippines’ next dollar bond offering, the RDB 2.

Landbank Senior Vice President Gonzalo Benjamin A. Bongolan provided detailed information on the different platforms that overseas Filipinos can use to invest directly in Philippine retail instruments using mobile phones and laptops. According to Mr. Bongolan, “Depending on the response to the RDB 2, we might get to see a Canadian Dollar bond offering next.”

At the session’s closing, Consul General Angelica C. Escalona thanked the speakers from the Philippines as well as Ambassador of the Philippines to Canada Maria Andrelita S. Austria, who was present during the event. Consul General Escalona said, “We are very happy with the turn-out. Judging by the reactions to the presentations and the questions received, our kababayans are seriously interested in investing in Philippine retail instruments to grow their funds.”

Founder and CEO of b2Bpreneur Janet Lim, who attended the event, was enthusiastic about the opportunity the RDB 2 presents to contribute to Philippine nation-building. Ms. Lim said, “It would be a great project for us to take on. Imagine the impact if each of the nearly one million overseas Filipinos in Canada invests US$200 in the RDB 2.” END
