New Philippine Consul General Arrives in Toronto

17 September 2019 – Consul General Orontes V. Castro assumed his post at the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto on 16 September 2019. He was welcomed at the airport by the officers and staff of the Consulate General.

Prior to his appointment as Consul General to Toronto, Consul General Castro was the Deputy Consul General at the Philippine Consulate in Chicago from 2007 to 2013. He served as Vice Consul then Consul at the Philippine Consulate General in New York from 2000 to 2003. His first foreign assignment was as Third Secretary and Vice Consul at the Philippine Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon from 1996 to 2000.

Consul General Castro is a certified public accountant in the Philippines. He finished his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree (major in Accounting) (Cum Laude) from the University of the East, Manila. He also completed some units in taxation and business law from the Indiana University. On 8 June 2019, he finished his Master in Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Santo Tomas – Graduate School, Manila with honors (Cum Laude).

Consul General Castro is a recipient of two (2) Presidential Awards/Decorations from the President of the Philippines – (1) the Presidential Medal of Merit and (2) the Mabini Award (Rank of Commander) for acts of merit and for his distinguished service in promoting the interests and in enhancing the prestige of the Republic of the Philippines.

At the Home Office, he served as Assistant Secretary of the Office of Fiscal Management Services and as Assistant Secretary and Chief of Protocol of the Office of Protocol. END.
