Appearances are important in Manila, as elsewhere. The women are often groomed and dressed beautifully, and adorned with jewelry. Visitors will be comfortable in smart suits and dresses with stockings and pumps. The Philippines is less conservative than neighboring countries, and shorter skirts and sleeves are acceptable.
At receptions, Filipino men often wear the traditional barong tagalog shirt worn outside trousers. Women tend to dress up at night.
